Wear Flowers in Your Hair
A trip back to San Francisco in the beat and hippie eras? Well, maybe, but with a distinctly 21st-Century viewpoint. Volti presents the premiere of Dan Visconti’s Wear Flowers in Your Hair, a celebration of the culture, diversity and tolerance of San Francisco from the winner of our annual young-composer competition. We’ll also premiere Pacific Beach, a new work from Harold Meltzer setting poetry by Kenneth Rexroth — sometimes called “the father of the Beats,” though he didn’t much like that title — and more groundbreaking new choral music from Mark Winges, Kirsten Broberg and Huang Ruo.
Friday March 1 in Berkeley, with a pre-concert reception at 7:30; Saturday March 2 in San Francisco; Sunday March 3 in Berkeley.
